Agility builds production AI for Scottish businesses in 3 to 8 weeks: chatbots, integration, retail and small business AI, by senior engineers.

Scotland's AI strategy
Scotland's AI Strategy 2026 to 2031 was launched on 20 March 2026. It builds on the 2021 strategy and adds a stronger focus on economic growth. From 2021 to 2026, The Data Lab delivered the previous strategy through the Scottish AI Alliance, built on trustworthy, ethical and inclusive AI.
Delivery of the new strategy is led by AI Scotland, a national programme run by the Scottish Government with a consortium that includes The Data Lab, ScotlandIS and the enterprise agencies. We are not part of that programme and do not speak for it. Our role is simpler: when a Scottish business decides to put AI into production, we scope it, build it and hand it over.
That growth focus matches the questions Scottish firms ask us most: how to hire an AI consultant, what AI can do for a small business, and what it costs. The sections below answer each one.

Services
Six services, all delivered by senior engineers and all aimed at a working system in production.
A short, practical plan for where AI pays back in your business, ranked by value and effort, with the first build scoped and priced.
One use case shipped properly, not a transformation programme. Built for owner-led firms and growing teams that need a clear return.
Demand forecasting, stock planning, customer analytics and product recommendations, connected to your ecommerce and stock systems.
Assistants that answer from your own documents and data, hand over to a person when needed, and work on your website or internal tools.
AI connected to the systems you already run, so results land in your CRM, ERP, finance or ecommerce platform rather than a separate tool.
Document search, drafting and question answering on your own content, with evaluation and guardrails built in.
Small businesses and retail
Most small businesses do not need an AI strategy document. They need one job done better: quotes sent faster, customer questions answered out of hours, or a clearer view of what will sell next month. We start there. The first project is one use case with a fixed scope and price, so you can see the return before you spend more. See our AI for startups and SMEs hub for how that works.
For retailers, the useful projects sit close to stock and sales: demand forecasting, stock planning, customer analytics, product search and recommendations, and chatbots that handle order and returns questions. Each one connects to the ecommerce, stock and till systems you already run, through our integration and automation work.
Conversational AI is often the quickest first step for both. A chatbot that answers from your own product, policy and service content can go live without changing your other systems. Read about our AI chatbot development.

Rates
We do not bill open-ended day rates. Every engagement is a fixed price you approve after a free 48-hour audit, and we invoice against delivered milestones. As indicative ranges, a focused AI feature or automation is typically $8,000 to $30,000, an AI product MVP $25,000 to $75,000, and a production AI platform $60,000 to $150,000+.
Because our senior engineers work from India, our rates are typically 40 to 60% below comparable US or UK firms for the same seniority. See the full breakdown on our AI development cost page and how we set prices on AI development pricing.

Cities
We have dedicated pages for Edinburgh and Glasgow, and we work with businesses anywhere in Scotland.
Fintech, public sector and university spin-outs. Edinburgh is home to The Data Lab, Scotland's innovation centre for data and AI.
Glasgow City Region attracted over £191 million of venture capital in 2023, a record year, and Glasgow universities supported 110+ spinouts from 2019 to 2024.
Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Inverness, the Highlands and the islands. Delivery is remote, so location does not change how we work.
How it works
From first call to production, with the price fixed before the build starts.
Free 30-minute call to understand your business problem, data, and goals.
Scoped proposal with timeline, milestones, and a fixed price.
Senior engineers start immediately. Weekly demos and full code access throughout.
Go live with documentation, training, and optional ongoing support.
How to choose
Choose an AI consultant who ships a working system, puts a senior engineer on your project and fixes scope and price before you commit. Use these six checks to compare firms.
Check whether the consultant ships production software or stops at strategy. Ask to see a live system or a case study with measured results.
Find out whether a senior engineer builds your system, or whether the work is handed to junior staff after the sale.
A good AI consultant can put the first release in writing, with milestones, a timeline and a price, before you commit.
Ask where your data is processed, who can access it, and how the firm meets UK data protection law.
Remote delivery works when the team is online during your working hours and shows you working software every week.
Make sure the contract gives you the source code, prompts and model artefacts, so you are not locked in.
Relevant work
Relevant for NHS Scotland and health providers
We built an AI-driven cardiac risk prediction platform that processes clinical data to identify high-risk patients up to 30 days ahead at 85% accuracy. The system integrates with existing EHR infrastructure and supports clinical decision-making.

An AI consultancy helps Scottish businesses find where AI will pay back, then builds and ships it: AI strategy, chatbots and conversational AI, integration with the systems you already run, machine learning and automation. Agility works as a production-first AI consultancy for Scotland, with senior engineers delivering working systems in 3 to 8 weeks.
Start with a free 30-minute discovery call. Within 48 hours you get a scoped proposal with a timeline, milestones and a fixed price, and you approve the scope before any build starts. You then work directly with the senior engineer building your system, with weekly demos and full code access.
Yes, if the first project is narrow and tied to a clear business result. For small businesses we usually start with one use case, such as a customer chatbot, automated quoting or reporting, or a forecasting model, scoped and priced before you commit. That lets a smaller team prove value before spending more.
Yes. We build chatbots and conversational AI assistants that answer customer and staff questions from your own documents and data, hand over to a person when needed, and connect to your CRM, booking or order systems. See our AI chatbot development page for how we build them.
Yes. Typical retail AI projects are demand forecasting and stock planning, customer analytics, product search and recommendations, and customer service chatbots for online shops. We start with the use case closest to revenue or margin and connect it to your existing ecommerce, stock and till systems.
As indicative ranges from our AI development cost page: a focused AI feature or automation is typically $8,000 to $30,000, an AI product MVP $25,000 to $75,000, and a production AI platform $60,000 to $150,000+. Your exact number is a fixed price you approve after a free 48-hour audit. Our rates are typically 40 to 60% below comparable US or UK firms for the same seniority.
No. Scotland's AI Strategy 2026 to 2031 is delivered through AI Scotland, a national programme run by the Scottish Government with a consortium that includes The Data Lab, ScotlandIS and the enterprise agencies. Agility is an independent AI consultancy and is not part of that programme. We work directly with Scottish businesses that want production AI built.
No. We do not have a Scottish office. Our senior engineers are based in Ahmedabad, India, and deliver to Scottish clients remotely, in English. India is 4.5 hours ahead of Scotland in winter and 5.5 hours ahead in summer, so our team overlaps with the Scottish working day across the morning and early afternoon, with video calls, async updates and weekly demos.
UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply across Scotland, the same as the rest of the UK. We design for them from the start: we agree where data is processed, who can access it, and what is logged before the build begins, and you own the code, prompts and model artefacts at the end.
